Donation FAQs
Who is eligible to donate to a municipal campaign in Ontario?
Only individuals who are normally resident in Ontario are eligible to donate. Corporations and trade unions are no longer permitted to contribute to municipal campaigns.
What is the maximum amount I can contribute?
The maximum contribution from an individual to a single candidate is $1,200.Â
Will I receive a receipt for my donation?
Yes, all contributions will be tracked and receipts will be issued. Please note that municipal campaign contributions are not eligible for provincial or federal tax credits, but they are vital for local campaign transparency.
Are there rules for anonymous or cash donations?
Anonymous contributions are not allowed. Contributions over $25 must be made by a recorded instrument (cheque, credit card, etc.). Cash donations up to $25 are permitted but must still include the donor's contact information for tracking.
